<lead><![CDATA[BFGoodrich, the official tire of the 2010 King of the Hammers, will introduce a new 42-inch off-road race tire during the competition. The 135-mile King of the Hammers takes place in Johnson Valley, California and starts on February 12 with Buzz Bronsema (pole position) and Rick Mooneyham leading the 100-strong pack. A new 39x13.50R17 Baja T/A KRT tire designed specifically for the KOH will also be put to use.]]></lead>
<text><![CDATA[King of the Hammers started in 2007 and earned its billing as the one of the toughest single-day, off-road races by combining open desert racing with advanced rock crawling. Johnson Valley's infamous Hammers Trails, an unforgiving track of crags, rocks, and boulders, lends its name to the endurance event and does not disappoint. Last year, only 36 of 92 entrants officially finished the race within the 10-hour time limit.2009 champion Jason Scherer returns to Johnson Valley this year and starts from the 38th spot. 2007 and 2008 champions John Reynolds and Shannon Campbell are placed in 45th and 72nd position, respectively. Two-time runner-up and TORC driver Casey Currie has drawn the 56th starting place. In the week leading up to the race, the 2010 King of the Hammers will host numerous off-road-related venues such as workshops, meet-and-greets, parties, and a vendor area. The last chance qualifying session, which determines the starting grid's remaining 22 positions, will run from February 9-10.]]></text>
